Baking Apple Crisp or the quickest way to your hubby's heart

Can I just say that nothing smells as wonderful as apples and cinnamon baking in the oven? I mean, it smells like heaven!! And apple crisp is one of our favorite desserts!!!

Start with 5 pounds of Granny Smith apples.

I peel half of them and core all of them. By peeling half of the apples, the unpeeled apples give the dish a rustic look.

Cut the apples in fairly small bite sized pieces. Add the zest of 2 orange and squeeze two oranges over the cut apples to prevent them from browning.

Combing 1/2 c. of sugar, 2 t. cinnamon and 1 t. of ground nutmeg. Sprinkle over the apples and toss the apples thoroughly to ensure they are covered completely.

Now for the topping, combine in a mixer, 1 1/2 c. flour, 3/4 c. sugar, 3/4 c. of light brown sugar, 1 c. oatmeal, 2 sticks of butter, cut into small cubes and a pinch of salt. Mix until the butter breaks down to pea sized pieces. Sprinkle the topping over the apples.

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until golden brown!!!

Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.....

If you want your hubby to come home with flowers, have this dish in the oven when he walks in the door. I guarantee you, he will love it.  A delicious dessert without being fussy!!
